Ah, now I get it
Well, that one foul was really unheard of, but in general, that ref was the cause of many of the cards himself as well. Call it patriottic, but we in Holland ran out of the house screaming and cursing everytime he handed out one...
Looked a bit like the game against Portugal four years ago... But I was still pretty young back then, I didn't get much of that game...
(That wasn't the only time I didn't get a game, by the way. I remember being in the stadium for the Champions League semifinal between PSV and Milan in 2005. PSV had lost 2-0 in Milan, and according to my dad, they played the best game he had ever seen that night. Milan didn't have a chance in Eindhoven that night, they lost 3-1. When it was 2-0, the only thing I thought was that they couldn't go into extra time, because I had school the next day, I had to wake up early... No thought about it being immense and unbelievable that the big A.C. Milan was sent home crying here... When Ambrosini and Cocu scored 2-1 and 3-1 in additional time, I didn't think of away goals counting double, so I thought we were going into extra time. I saw all exhausted players on the pitch, that made sense. The only thing that didn't make sense was that my dad didn't look very happy and was about to leave. So I went with him, and asked in the car if we were going to watch the extra time at home on television...
)
Forgive me, I was just about to turn 11...
I got the last match day of the Dutch competition in 2007 as well... The most legendary quote of my life, during the half-time break, to my Dad: "Dad, I think I just pissed pure adrenaline a few moments ago!?"
Yeah. Those were the days...
