Do you know Alfred J. Kwak?

Now, I found the songs of the show in Dutch and I'd like to know how well I could understand what they mean. I know German which helped a lot and I've learned a bit Dutch but there are some things unclear. I'd be happy if someone who knows Dutch would help me. These are at the moment the only songs that I know in Dutch, but if I find more, I might ask you for help again :P.

SPETTER PIETER PATER

Hij vliegt hij waggelt en hij zwemt (he flies, he waddles, he swims)
Hij kwekt voor jouw en hij kwakt voor haar (he says kwak to you, kwak to her)
Hij snatert heel wat bij elkaar (he says something? to all of you)
En als jij een liedje voor hem zingt (and if you sing a song for him)
Dan plonst dan duikt ie en dan zwemt (then he ?? then he ?? and then he swims)
Hij wat voor hem (he ....?)

Spetter pieter pater (??)
Lekker in het water (it's nice? in the water)
Ga maar vast naar huis (you can go home?)
Hij komt een druppel later (he comes a bit later)

ZO VROLIJK (so happy/joyous)

Ik ben vandaag zo vrolijk (I am today so happy)
zo vrolijk zo vrolijk (so happy so happy)
Ik ben behoorlijk vrolijk (I am terribly? happy)
zo vrolijk was ik nooit (so happy that I've never been before)

Ik was wel vaker vrolijk (I've been happy before too)
heel vrolijk, heel vrolijk (very happy, very happy)
maar zo behoorlijk vrolijk (but so terribly? happy like now)
was ik tot nog toe nooit (I've never been before?)

Soms ben ik ongelukkig (sometimes I'm unhappy)
ontzettend ongelukkig (upsetting unhappy)
Soms ben ik ongelukkig (sometimes I'm unhappy)
dan sterf ik van verdriet (?? that I die in unhappyness??)

Soms ben ik wat neurotisch (sometimes I am neurotic)
phsychotisch en chaotisch (psychotic and chaotic)
labiel en neogotisch (?? and ??)
maar vandaag dus niet (but today I'm not)

Soms ben ik wat neurotisch
phsychotisch en chaotisch
labiel en parasotisch (are these real words? i doubt it)
maar vandaag dus niet

Spetter pieter pater is a case of artistic freedom. Spetter means drop (of a liquid), pieter is a name (Peter) and pater is Dutch for father (clergy). Pater rhymes with water, pieter rhymes with pater (alliteration). In English i'd probably be something like "drip drop drap".

Your translation was almost perfect, i've translated it fully below.

Also, i Wiki-ed it and was surprised to see it was broadcast in so many countries, even in Israël. :o

Spetter pieter pater
Drip drop drap

Hij vliegt hij waggelt en hij zwemt
He flies, he waddles and he swims
Hij kwekt voor jouw en hij kwakt voor haar
He quacks for you and he quacks for her
Hij snatert heel wat bij elkaar
He makes a big fuss [with his quacking]
En als jij een liedje voor hem zingt
And if you sing him a song
Dan plonst dan duikt ie en dan zwemt
He'll plunge, he'll dive and he'll swim
Hij wat voor hem
some for him [not sure what Herman van Veen meant here]

Spetter pieter pater
Drip drop drap
Lekker in het water
So nice in the water
Ga maar vast naar huis
Go home already
Hij komt een druppel later
He'll drop by a bit later [woo @ use of drop]

Zo vrolijk
So happy

Ik ben vandaag zo vrolijk
I'm so happy today
zo vrolijk zo vrolijk
So happy, so happy
Ik ben behoorlijk vrolijk
I'm very happy
zo vrolijk was ik nooit
Like i never was before [lit: i've never been so happy]

Ik was wel vaker vrolijk
I've happy lots of times
heel vrolijk, heel vrolijk
Very happy, very happy
maar zo behoorlijk vrolijk
But so very happy
was ik tot nog toe nooit
I've never been before

Soms ben ik ongelukkig
Sometimes i'm unhappy
ontzettend ongelukkig
Very unhappy
Soms ben ik ongelukkig
Sometimes I'm unhappy
dan sterf ik van verdriet (?? that I die in unhappyness??)
Then i die out of grief

Soms ben ik wat neurotisch
Sometimes I'm a bit neurotic
psychotisch en chaotisch
Psychotic and chaotic
labiel en neogotisch
Unstable and neogothic [Alfred was a goth avant la lettre?]
maar vandaag dus niet
But, obviously, not today

Soms ben ik wat neurotisch
Sometimes i'm a bit neurotic
psychotisch en chaotisch
Psychotic and chaotic
labiel en parasotisch
Unstable and ... [can't find the original lyrics, the word might be parasitic]
maar vandaag dus niet
But not today, obviously...

Thank you!! :P
It was shown also in Finland and it was my favourite as a child. Those songs were in it in Finnish and the lyrics meant quite much the same as the original lyrics.

You're welcome.

It is such a curious matter, i wonder if it appealed because of the openly anti-German sentiments - especially in the episodes when Dolf's in power. ;)

At least it was a better export product than Fear Factor or Big Brother... :/

Hey now, Israël had more than enough cartoons shown in. There is a strong cult following after them here. Plenty of mid-90's Trance tracks produced here had annoying samples from cartoons.

Aren't the last three verses a bit too goth for a kid's cartoon?
